What is recess?

RECESS is a first-of-its-kind music and ideas festival.  It brings the nation’s hottest music acts and most successful startups together to inspire the next generation of ground-breaking entrepreneurs.  It’s an opportunity to network, learn from innovative business owners, and have your face rocked off all in one place.  RECESS just kicked off its Spring 2014 campus tour at the University of the Pacific on March 21st.

It’s a perfect blend of entertainment and education, and most of all, it’s there to motivate students to subvert traditional career paths and pursue their own visions.  Rootstrap has come on board to offer a Special Prize to the best idea not yet built during RECESS’s Pitch Competition — a FREE storycarding session worth an estimated 20K including complete product blueprint, market potential analysis, sales strategies, and project management tools that will turn your big idea into a real product.  More on that in a bit.

Why do you want to go?

RECESS is pulling together some of the very best electronic acts to perform including Los-Angeles based producer/rapper/DJ Diplo and electronic music giants Paper Diamond, Robert Delong, and Sage the Gemini.  The music is only part of what makes RECESS worth your time, though.  It’s also bringing together the brightest minds in the worlds of technology, art, fashion, and entrepreneurship.

The festival’s already become well-known for its ‘Study Hall.’  At this event, you’ll get to hear from successful trend setters on a variety of topics from personal branding to career obstacles to innovation.  Learn how they brought their ideas to life and how you can do the same.  This year there are 20 speakers including Alexis Giles from MOX, Avi Spielman from Summit, Brent Freeman from Roozt, Josh Constine from TechCrunch, and many others.

After ‘Study Hall’ is the ‘Playground,’ a career fair like no other.  Here you can network with some of the biggest names in tech and see exhibits on their cutting edge technologies.  This year reps from About.me, Roozt, Pandora, MOX, Do Cool Sh*t, Dealflicks, and nearly 40 others will be in attendance.

Why do you want to win?

RECESS also includes a pitch competition that will see the winning teams from each school heading to Las Vegas to pitch in front of advisors and investors on May 29th through June 1st.  The winning team with the best idea not yet built gets the free Rootstrap session from our award-winning mobile/ web product strategists valued at over $20,000.  You could see your idea takes shape through our storycarding sessions which will include custom wireframes, UX/UI designs, and market analysis.

If you’re quick, there’s still time to sign up at recess.is.  Don’t miss the opportunity, and we’ll keep you posted on the event.
